Poor Ava!
On Friday evening Ava fell off of her bike going down the hill on our driveway. She tried to catch herself and extended her arm, breaking the bone right above her elbow. We immediately went to the ER. After a couple of x-rays, they determined that the break was a #3, the worst it could be. She needed surgery to repair it ASAP. She had to have four pins put in her arm and has a splint from her hand to her shoulder. She was super brave and kept a pretty good attitude through it all. We are proud of her!

There's not much to do for 5 hours in a waiting room with lots of kids. Fortunately friends arrived for some entertainment. You can do a lot with doctor gear!
Here's Ava in recovery as we were waiting for her to wake up from anesthesia. It was a long night for Sadie as well. They finally released her around 2:30 AM.

First of all- I hope you don't mind my blog lurking. I found your site off Jenny's links. Awww! poor Ava! From black eye to broken arm! I was just telling someone today that I'll be passing out when one of my kids fall off their bikes and break a bone... I don't handle things like that well at all. How did you handle it, mom?
Poor Ava is right! She is so brave though, with smiles through it all. That first major injury is always something to remember, isn't it... I think what she'll remember most is the ice cream! :)
I was so happy to see Ava eating her Ice cream!!! Ice cream does wonders for a broken arm. Even though it was stressful I'm sure, it looks like you had a lot of special moments at the hospital. At the very least...you will all have memories of that night for a long time!!! see you soon,
jen
